Website Analogy
If you find all this website jargon confusing then take a look at our analogy below.
Think of a website as a house, the content as the people who live in the house, the web hosting as the land the house is built on and the domain name as the address where the land, house and people can be found.
| People – Bob, Jenny, Samantha and their dog Toto | Content – written text, business details, photos, downloadable files |
| House – Double brick, 4 bedroom, 2 bathrooms and a pool | Website – Drupal CMS with 7 pages and a contact form |
| Land – 1000 m2 with access to amenities | Web hosting – 500 MB web space with 1GB monthly transfers |
| Address – 123 Fake St Townsville 2222 | Domain Name – www.example.com |
First you begin with some interesting and original people (content), then you build a house (website) for them to live in, then you require a piece of land (web hosting) for the house to reside on and finally you need an address (domain name) so that the house can be found in this huge world (world wide web).
An empty house (website) is very dull that’s why it should be occupied by interesting and original people (content). Good quality, original and interesting content is the essence of a superior website. The website should facilitate the delivery of this content in a logical and easy to use manner.
